This blog has been created to help students at Prep Charter High School with their summer reading assignments. Students going into 10th grade must read Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Students are encouraged to use the blog as they read to help them understand the plot, characters, and larger themes of the story. While teachers will be adding questions and comments, students should also talk to each other about the book via the blog. Happy Reading!
HOW TO POST
1. Look for posts marked "Response Question." Pick a question that you want to answer.
2. Click on the word "comments" right below the question. This will take you to a new page.
3. Type your answer into the "leave your comment" box on the right.
Guidelines for posting:
Please use proper spelling and capitalization- this is the internet, but we are still educated people!
Please read other people's posts and think about what they are saying. You are welcome to agree/disagree with people, but you must still be respectful of others' ideas.
Try to include direct quotes from the novel to support your ideas.
Try to show original thoughts in your posts.

The topic of Melinda's Project is on Women's Sufferage ( their fight for equality) This is significant because it is about how women SPOKE UP for wat they believed in and made themselves heard for wat they wanted. This relates to Melinda in telling us wat she's doing wrong to acheive her goals. She protestes to be silent but yet doesn't speak up for the rights to have it. If ur not heard, u won't be noticed.
Ironically enough Melinda decides to do her topic on Womens sufferage during which women decided to speak up for themselves. The topic is significant because this in turn does get Melinda to think about her standing up for herself but she restrains from using verbal communication. Unfortunately enough when Mr. Neck unfairly and out of the blue tells Melinda she has to give an oral speech to the class she decides to "Speak" by... not Speaking. Clearly her thoughts on what speaking means are much different than the commonly known dictionary meaning or in some cases the universal term known throughout society. However in turn she does catch Davids interest and he gives he a few pointers on how to improve or better communicate the idea of "Standing up for oneself."
